Welcome to Japan and the World
History, Culture and Global Connections
What connects the samurai to modern Japanese politics? Why does Japan approach artificial intelligence so differently from Silicon Valley? Why is the country’s population collapsing - and can anything be done about it?
Every week, Japan and the World explores these questions, revealing the history behind everything you love about Japan and showing how Japanese history and culture shape our world. The newsletter is grounded in scholarly research but written for curious minds, not just specialists.
Whether you’re fascinated by traditional culture, interested in East-West encounters, or trying to understand Japan’s role in our turbulent 21st century, Japan and the World brings you credible and engaging analysis from a university lecturer, award-winning writer and BBC broadcaster.
