Oh fascinating! I learned a lot like about the garden guardians (and cursed rocks… will be careful not to flip any over by accident ha). Have you been to Takamatsu’s Ritsurin Garden? They were famous for sending gifting (aji-ishi) and pine. One of the most beautiful gardens I’ve been to in Japan!
